Beginning PaintingStudents explore painting techniques, styles and subjects by using watercolor, acrylic and tempera paints. Students learn to identify, use and care for an assortment of painting tools and materials. Students learn the steps necessary to develop working drawings into paintings. Important artists and periods are studied to enrich these experiences. Students evaluate their own work and the work of others in class critiques. This class should be taken before the following painting classes.

Painting Techniques/ ApplicationsThis class focuses on the use of color and how to achieve desired visual and psychological effects. Students learn and work with such compositional elements as balance, placement and organization of subject matter as they create paintings. The study of artists and their use of color and composition is related to assigned projects. Students will develop more in depth critiquing skills.

Painting Styles & IdeasThis class explores the important trends and characteristics of painting styles and movements, such as realism and abstraction. Through assigned class projects, students learn to apply these learnings to the development of their own painting style. Students critique their own work and the work of others.

Painting PortfolioPainting Studio/Portfolio class is designed for the serious student to continue development of painting skills and ideas. Class experiences include the production and presentation of art. Class experiences also include reading and research, gallery attendance and a solo exhibit of each student''s work. Assessment will include student writing.
